That’s right: The Brooklyn Aquarium Society is finally back! We had our first event in over two years, and we had a great time. Our location was changed to St Brendan’s Church, and it was a big success. We had many familiar faces and also many new ones. There were a lot of great deals on fish, tanks, and supplies, and a great speaker, James Perronod from Discusrus.com, who graciously stepped up at the very last minute since our scheduled speaker, Yemi Amu was sick. James, as always, held an informative question and answer session. There was no question that could stump this pro! We thank him.
Moving forward, our location may vary, so check our web site and Facebook page for details. Next month will also be at St Brendan’s Church, located at 1525 East 12th Street on the corner of Avenue O. We’ve had to change the date to May 20th, the third Friday of the month because of space availability. We will have Peter Izzo from House of Fins speaking. You’ll want to be sure to catch his talk on nano tanks.
Please note, we will have some restrictions for that night. Everyone, for your own safety, please wear a mask inside and practice social distancing between members. No one will be allowed inside before 7:30 PM. If we follow these simple rules, we should have a great time. They have a parking lot right across the street. We will have refreshments, but cannot have members handling the refreshments. They will be given out by our staff. These rules are to keep us all safe, so we can continue having our meetings.
On another note, anyone wishing to make a donation in Joe Graffagnino’s name can donate to either Disabled American Veterans or Tunnel to Tower Foundation. These were two of Joe’s favorite originations to donate to.
You can check our website for future events (www.basny.org). We are still not allowed to use the Aquarium for meetings, but are trying to book other halls for our shows. Please look out for the locations where we are to meet. When we do not have a meeting place, we will continue to bring you speakers online, with the help of our board member, David Manual. David has been working hard to keep things going and we thank him for all his hard work.
Look on our Facebook page for aquatic sales from our club. We will post items for sale periodically. We always have tanks and equipment for sale. If you are looking for something aquatic, reach out to us.
Any hobby or aquatic information you hear or read about, please share with our Editor,Ginny Cahill. It can even be your own short stories about your own aquatic experiences. Please send all emails to Ginny at basny.editor@gmail.com. Ginny has done a great job since taking over as editor and we thank her for her dedication. The Aquatica looks awesome, Ginny. Thank you for all your hard work.
We are always looking for your input on our events. Please let us know if you want speakers on any aquatic topic. We need our members to be more involved as we are always trying to better our club.
